Festival at Lake Tana - Bahirdar, Ethiopia

Boating over Lake Tana to Ura Kidane Monastery, we were fortunate to see a once-a-year celebration. A mixture of African and devout Orthodox Ethiopian Christianity, it was spine-tingling. Ura Kidane is the Zege Peninsula's most famous monastery and has beautifully painted depictions of Jesus, Mary and every other saint. Primitive, bold and thoroughly engrossing..
